What We Do

We are a group of accredited investors seeking superior financial returns by investing in early stage start-ups. As successful business people and entrepreneurs, we pool our collective knowledge, experience and investment capital to bring our Members excellent angel investment opportunities. Our portfolio companies benefit from our Member expertise in IT (digital media, software, mobile, telecom, web-based services, software as a service, online applications, enterprise, etc.), life sciences (healthcare, biotech, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, etc.), clean technology, retail, and other industries. Our collaborative mentorship approach and strategic financing supports entrepreneurs through various stages of early growth.

Our Deal History

As a relatively young Angel group, formed only in 2008, we are pleased to report that we have had two successful exits already, whereas successful exits typically occur after 3-7 years in the Angelsphere. York Angels is currently invested in over 40 deals, totaling roughly $10.8M, and we expect to have many future successful exits as our deals have time to mature. More importantly, as a group, we have yet to experience any failures to date which may be attributed to our group’s broad-based professional experience, expertise and a relatively conservative approach.

Our Investee Companies

Our angel investors provide growing companies with seed funding through direct and private investments. Though we are open to considering investment opportunities in a wide range of sectors, we generally look for companies that are post-revenue, with completed or at least post-first implementation development.

Our Process

If you believe you have an investment opportunity our members should consider, you can begin the application process by submitting the company to York Angels via Gust here. Once your application is received, we will contact you to schedule a brief phone interview, during which we review a series of pre-screening questions. If we feel there is a synergy, the company will be invited to present to our screening committee (a subset of our membership) at our semi-monthly screening meeting. Pending approval of the committee, the company may have the opportunity to pitch to our full membership at our monthly investment meeting. Our members will have a chance to discuss each investment opportunity, and if interest is expressed in any specific company, we will proceed with the investment process (due diligence, negotiation of terms, etc.).
