Bob Glandfield has over 40+ years in the building & managing of growth in small Canadian companies. After graduating from the University of Waterloo, his career has varied from being a Design Engineer to President. In addition to managing Sales & Marketing roles at the national and international level, Bob has also held positions as General Manager, Vice President and President of a number of companies.
In 1984, Bob joined the National Research Council as an Industrial Technology Advisor and worked with many small companies. In 1999, Bob started his first secondment from NRC, acting as VP Finance of a small growing high-tech company, and experienced the financial frustrations of growing a company through the boom to bust era of the early 2000’s. At the end of his secondment Bob returned to IRAP.
The unique blend of experiences, understanding and knowledge Bob gained from working in the Government and Private sectors and with the encouragement and assistance of a number of colleagues, he developed the concept of the Innovation Synergy Centre in Markham (ISCM) (currently known as ventureLAB). ISCM was established to provide entrepreneurs and owners of small business owners’ access to highly experienced business mentors and advisors to assist them in all aspects of growing their business. In 2003, with the support of The Town of Markham, National Research Council/IRAP, York University and others, the Synergy Centre was launched. Bob held the position of President and CEO until his planned retirement in 2010.
Bob has been a Board Member of a number of organizations, including 17 years with the York Technology Association. He has served as member of several advisory committees both at the College and Municipal level. Bob continues to participate on the Boards of several non-profit organizations.
